A Quote I Live By!

This was a quote that I had printed and hung and stuffed every place I could imagine. Overall, when ever I hear of this quote it reminds me about being a little child. The Bible talks about how we are to have faith as a child and for some reason, this quote reminds me of such things.

The first line is “Sing as if no one is listening”. Growing up, I was in county choirs, I took voice lessons and every chance I had I would always being singing. In fact, music was such a big part in my life, that my dad, to this day asks me, “when am I going to become that singer?” I know for me one of the reasons why I stopped singing was because I had multiple music teachers tell me that I was not good enough, and that I shouldn’t sing. Even after I took vocal lessons, I even had a pastor tell me that I don’t know how to sing, meanwhile they could not hold a tune to save their life. If I could not sing at school, and I could not sing at church, then where could I sing? The answer – I stopped and left singing for when I was alone.

So the next line reads “Love as if you have never been hurt”. I don’t know about you, but I have had many wounds in my life. I have been deeply hurt by my parents, by my husband, by friends and by leaders I thought I could look up to.  But we are called to love with an unconditional love, and never look for anything in return. Can you imagine what this would would be if everyone loved each other as if they were never hurt? The cycle of hurt would finally end.

Ah… Dance as if nobody is watching. When I get really happy and giddy I start dancing about with utter joy.  I remember there was a season in my life, which was actually during one of the darkest. I used to dance in the basement of the house we lived in. No one was around so I would dance my heart out. A couple of years later I went to a big church, where they would allow you to worship at the alter. I would dance and worship God just as David did – till his clothes fell off. I literally danced as if I nobody was watching – meanwhile on a Sunday morning there would be 250+ people in the congregation.

Live as if it is heaven on earth. This is is actually a Biblical principal. Not only is this part of the Our father prayer – “Thy Kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven” but we are also suppose to set the captives free – here on this side of heaven. now you may be asking – how can I live as if it is heaven on earth? The only thing you can take with you when you leave this world are your relationships. You can take no materialistic position. So my first and foremost question for you, what materialistic position are you putting above a relationship with people? Is it money, a new car, a new house, the latest video game? Pick up the phone and call someone – and then put the phone down when you are in their presence.

Now, can you see what I mean by it reminds me about having the faith of a child? Have you seen a child sing? They don’t care that they are off key – they sing as loud as they can. Most of the times to an obnoxious level. But we still love them anyway because they are so full of life that it becomes contagious. Have you ever seen a child get hurt and then five minutes later they are loving and giving hugs and kisses? I know I have! Have you ever seen a child dance about knocking into things and people and then looking at them as if to say what are you doing there – you are in my way. Have you ever seen a child quick to forgive, and see the bigger and more important meaning in life far before we even see it? I definitely know I have!

This is why this is one of my all time favorite quotes! Don’t let anything hold you back from what is most important in this journey called life!

This quote is not quoted because no matter how much I look, I can not find the original owner. But these words are not my own.
